Research

Most of my current research interest centers around architectures and protocols for mobile and wireless networking. Specifically, I am curious about architectures for future internet and wide-area mobile networks. Historically, I've also worked on wireless sensor networks (although that work is currently somewhat on the backburner).

I have participated in various roles in a number of different research projects founded by the European commision, BMBF, BMWi, DFG, and industry (in particular, Siemens, Ericsson, DoCoMo EuroLabs, and Mircosoft Research).

Teaching

I am responsible for the teaching activities of the research group Computer Networks. In particular, I am teaching classes on
  • "Konzepte und Methoden der Systemsoftware" - Bachelor-level computer systems class
  • Bachelor: Computer Networks, Distributed Systems
  • Master: Performance evaluation by simulation, mobile communication, ad hoc & sensor networks, future internet
  • Seminars and project groups on various topics related to computer networks.

CV

Member of various program committees of conferences and workshops. I was on the editorial board of the Elsevier Computer Communications journal and Elsevier Ad hoc Networks and Elsevier Pervasive and Mobile Computing, and was chair of the Wireless Worlds Research Forum's working group 3 on "Cooperating and ad hoc networks."

I am a member of IEEE, ACM, GI, and KuVS.

From 2004, member of the "Deutscher Hochschulverband". Discontinued membership on March 2, 2011 out of protest against the DHV position in the Guttenberg issue, the DHV's lack of a communication culture among and with its members, and the general attitude of the DHV towards its members.

Time budget

As a little curiosity, I am shown my work time distribution over the year 2014. This data has become easily available because of the need to charge work time of permanent staff to projects (in particular, European Union or industry projects). It might give an impression with what I am spending my work day... Incidently, there is a category "Free Research" for anything that is not related to immediate project needs - but since there is so little time allocated to this category, it did not show up in the graph :-).
